It's Lassie's Birthday!

Today my best friend turned seven years old.
He's been my best friend since I was 13 and he is, by far, the best thing I've ever worked so hard for.
He knows me so well and is always right there by my side, no matter what.

For his birthday I thought it would be fun to look back on his past seven years.

I couldn't have asked for a better dog or a better friend.
Thank you, Lassie, for being my loyal friend, for giving me a reason to get up in the morning even when life gets hard, for loving me unconditionally and teaching me so much. Thank you for the laughs, the tears, the snuggles, the kisses, the fun, the joy and the adventures.

I love you, Booger! ♥

Happy Barkday Lassie. From what we read you have quite a good Dog Mom. You are a very lucky Collie. We loved reading the story about how you came to live with her.

Happy birthday, Lassie! What a handsome and distinguished gentleman.

I spy a Gentle Leader in a few of those pictures - did that work well for him? I've been thinking about trying one for Violet.

Aww, thank you all for the sweet birthday wishes!

Brianne, it did work pretty well for him! But for Ella and Petal I prefer the Easy Walk Harness from Premier.
I actually wish I had something like that for Lassie, I think it would've worked better.

Sometimes I still use the Gentle Leader on Petal, because sometimes she gets a little crazy with her barking and she'll practically walk backwards just to bark at a dog behind us, so in cases like that it's nice to have control of her head, haha. But I've read that if it's used improperly it can hurt the dog's neck and spine, scary!

Mostly we use the harness, because I like it a lot more and I'm not constantly having to mess with it like with the Gentle Leader which often rides up her face and over her eyes. Plus I've noticed, with the Gentle Leader, people are a lot more wary around her because they mistake it for a muzzle. With the harness I don't worry about her being hurt and people ask to pet her a lot more.

Another cool looking harness is the Walk In Sync harness. I've never tried it, but it looks and sounds really nice and easy to use, though it is a bit pricey at $52. For that price you get the harness, the leash and (I think) access to members only training videos online.
Here's a review of the harness: Walk In Sync Harness Review

Anyway, I'm sure you were just expecting a simple "Yes." or "No." answer, hahaha, but I hope that was helpful. :]

Thank you for the helpful answer! I didn't mean to hijack Lassie's birthday post, I've just been on the fence about whether to try it. Piper has a Gentle Leader, and it's worked well for her after she got past the "Something is on my FAAACE! Get it OOOOFF!" stage, but GSDs and Collies are so different. I was also a little wary of people mistaking it for a muzzle, I love how social she is - she's a lot better at talking to strangers than I am.

I was just checking out the Easy Walk Harness at The Three Dog Bakery today before I read this, and was pretty intrigued. Violet is improving on her loose-leash walking, but only because I've been clicker training as we walk and she's gotten more interested in what I have than what's up ahead. Sometimes she gets a little nuts with barking and pulling.

I'll probably give the Gentle Leader a shot since we already have one, but the Easy Walk Harness sounds like a great option. I generally love harnesses...I wouldn't want something pulling my neck and face. Thank you again!

Don't worry about it, I don't mind at all! I'm glad I was able to help.

Definitely give the Gentle Leader a try and see how it works for her. If you don't like it for her, then go for the Easy Walk harness. I'm pretty sure that if you don't like the harness, you can return it. ;]
