Review: True Chews from Chewy.com!

 photo Chewy-logo.png

Today we are doing a review of True Chews from Chewy.com!

 photo petalchewyreviewbox.png
"Open it, oh Thumbed One!"

The lovely folks at Chewy.com sent us 1 bag of Lils pig ears and 1 six inch bully stick to try.

 photo petalchewyreviewtreats.png

The Lils pig ears are for dogs 20 lbs and under. In our case they made the perfect sampling size!
There were three ears in the bag plus one teeny tiny one.

 photo c7849b43-3bf5-4cb2-8af8-51341b614759.jpg

 photo petalchewyreviewpigears.png

They're a pretty decent size. I bet a small dog would be in heaven and get lots of chewing time from it. Lassie and Petal finished them off in under 5 minutes. They LOVED them. I loved that they're made in the USA. But the little hairs still on the ear made me cringe. My dogs have had pig ears before (usually when I take them to a pet store and they snatch one off the shelf or I tell them to "pick something!" That's what they usually go for), but I've never noticed little hairs. Then again, I've never looked too closely either. ;)

 photo petalchewyyummypigear.png

They're a very messy treat. I was glad I had Petal and Lassie (trust me he got some, in fact, he got 2 of the 3; I just didn't get any decent pictures) eat them on the kitchen floor/their dog cot.

 photo 79fdaa7f-e006-4e25-989a-66f026a2985f.jpg
"Licking crumbs off the floor is a little difficult with an overbite."

I gave the bully stick to Petal, since Lassie got 2 of the 3 pig ears.
It was a very thin little bully stick and it only lasted her about 8 minutes! Six inch bully sticks usually last my dogs somewhere between 20-60 minutes depending on thickness (yes, I hear you giggling ;P).

 photo 5601adb8-27f1-44c4-a782-66fa2389b76d.jpg
Thin little bully stick.

These bully sticks would be perfect for little dogs/dogs that aren't strong chewers at all. They wouldn't be worth the money for us though. I expect the pricey chews to last a minimum of 20 minutes. This didn't even last half that.
On the plus side, I didn't notice any smell and I sat right next to Petal as she ate it.

Lassie & Petal give the pig ears 3 1/2 out of 4 paws up for deliciousness and being made in the USA. They're a little pricey though.
 photo pawprintrating2.png photo pawprintrating2.png photo pawprintrating2.png photo halfpawrate2.png

Petal gives the bully stick 1 paw up. It was tasty and made in the USA, but it was gone in a flash; not for strong chewers.
 photo pawprintrating2.png

While I wouldn't buy True Chews' bully sticks for my dogs, I would happily buy any of their other treats, and I do think their bully sticks would be the perfect size for soft chewers/small dogs.

Of course Chewy.com still has all our love. Our package arrived promptly and the goodies were packaged well.
The dogs get excited when a package from Chewy.com comes. Even the cats come running to see if it's their usual order of food.

Review: Devotion spray from Viva La Dog Spa

Today we are reviewing Devotion dog spray from Viva La Dog Spa!

Viva La Dog Spa makes— yes, you guessed it: dog grooming supplies such as shampoos, conditioners, sprays, and more.
Viva La Dog Spa has a fun and pretty French look and a adorable Poodle mascot, Lilly Claire.
Their products are made with Solar Power and their bottles, labels, bands and pumps are recyclable! They also pre-cycle whenever possible. You can read more that here.

A little about Devotion and what it was named for:
"Because there’s no one more loyal than your dog, we named our new designer fragrance, DEVOTION. DEVOTION is not only the main characteristic of our dogs, it’s our promise to them too – to be devoted! It’s a relaxing blend of soft floral scents that’s both playful and feminine. Imagine a light mist of fresh flowers with the soft, clean scent of raspberry on a warm day. It’s a winner!"

Our bottle of Devotion arrived wrapped up sweetly.
 photo devotionspray.png

It comes in a decent sized bottle at 6 Fl. Oz. The bottle itself has a simple and pretty look.
Pretty also describes the scent. It's a very pretty scent. It smells so pretty that I refrained from using it on Lassie. He says it's bad enough I named him "girl", I don't need to go and make him smell like one too. ;)

It smells nicer than most human perfumes. I'm tempted to use it on myself.
In fact, I did. I sprayed a bit of it on each wrist, just to sample it before I sprayed it on Petal. I have really sensitive skin and I didn't want to spray something I could potentially be allergic to on Petal, seeing as I'm often rubbing my face against her fur and kissing on her.

 photo petaldevotion.png

Unfortunately the scent only seems to last about two days.
It took a few tries to get the spray nozzle to work that first time, but after that it has worked like a charm! Although, it doesn't spray the way I was expecting it to. It doesn't drench Petal or come out in a stream or anything, it just doesn't come out in the really light, but wide spread, misty spray I expected it to. Because of this it only covers a small area of fur, but if I rub it around I can get it to cover a larger area.

I haven't had any severe reactions to it, but (and it very well may be just me, I am sensitive to some perfumes, so I'm keeping that in mind), it is strong at first. Petal doesn't always appreciate it that much when it first goes on, but after I rub it in it doesn't seem to bother her. I never use more than one spritz.

The ingredients of this fragrance are no where to be found. They're top secret. So this spray may or may not be a suitable fit for dogs with allergies.

 photo devotionspray2.png
Pretty little bottle, isn't it?

Our over all rating of Viva La Dog Spa's Devotion spray:
I give it 4 out of 5 hearts; it smells so pretty, but initially it's rather strong (so it may not be a good choice for the really sensitive type). I almost feel funny about spraying it on Petal because it smells so much like a human perfume, LOL.
 photo heartrating2.png photo heartrating2.png photo heartrating2.png photo heartrating2.png

Petal gives it 2 1/2 out of 4 paws, 'cause that first spray sometimes makes her sneeze a big sneezie.
 photo pawprintrating2.png photo pawprintrating2.png photo halfpawrate2.png

To be perfectly honest, unless someone directly asked me about it ("Your dog smells so good! What did you use? Where can I get it?" for example), this wouldn't be the first grooming splash/spray I would recommend.

Check out Viva La Dog Spa to learn more about them and their products.
You can also find them on Twitter and Facebook.

Review: Orijen Freeze Dried Treats from Chewy.com

 photo Chewy-logo.png

I love Chewy.com and was thrilled to work with them again for this review.
Chewy.com has many brands of pet food to offer. They also offer treats, toys, clean up supplies, leashes, collars, and much more.
My favorite thing about Chewy.com would have to be their customer service. I order our cat food from them (it's so much cheaper at Chewy.com than anywhere else, another plus!) and have had to contact customer service on two occasions and both times they were very prompt and incredibly kind. They didn't make me want to pull my hair out and they didn't make me feel like it was my fault.

Chewy.com asked us to review Orijen Freeze Dried treats.
Chewy.com offers Orijen's dog food, cat food, and dog treats. Orijen's foods and treats are made in Canada.
We were sent the Original flavor of their freeze dried treats. Here's a description of them from Chewy.com:

No lazy lap dogs here… these treats are just for the rough-and-tumble, ready-to-wag pups. Orijen Original Freeze-Dried Dog Treats are filled with tasty chicken, turkey, and flounder to provide your pet with a protein-rich snack that's made without any preservatives, fillers, or artificial flavors. Each grain-free treat only has seven calories, and is freeze-dried to lock in all of the nutritional content and flavor. 5 Star reviews across the board!

Key Benefits

  • Made with high-quality protein sources
  • Preservative-free
  • Grain-free
  • Low-calorie, freeze-dried dog treats

 photo orijenfreezedried.png

They're basically the dog equivalent of cat nip (or crack).
My dogs went insane for these treats.
I'm not kidding. I could probably train them to back flip for them.
Look at this crazed look Lassie got in his eyes:
 photo musthavelass.png

And Petal, or Miss Talks A Lot, is more quick to end her loud conversations (complete with obnoxious "dancing") with neighborhood dogs when I bring these treats on our walks. Which quickly made them a five star training treat in my eyes.

 photo patiencepetal.png

Even Petal's picky friend Pepper devoured half of one and then demanded the other half. This dog usually won't take any dog treats from me.

 photo pickypepper.png

They're soft treats. You can easily pinch smaller pieces off of it. They crumble easily and would probably work well to bribe finicky eaters to eat their dinner. That also makes them a bit messy though, but my dogs will happily lick up every last crumb.

 photo orijentreat.png
 photo goingforgold.png

They don't have a super strong odor (which is a big plus), but they aren't something you want to go inhaling deep breaths of. Unless you're a dog, of course.

 photo wanttreatlassie.png photo ofcoursetreat.png photo lassorijen.png photo yumlassorijen.png
While my dogs love how these treats taste, I love that they're high quality and the ingredients are simple:
Cobb chicken liver, turkey liver, boneless Cobb chicken, boneless turkey, boneless flounder.

That's it! That's all that's in them.

They only down side to them is, they are rather pricey. Though I suppose that's to be expected for a high quality treat.

The dogs give them 4 out of 4 paws for deliciousness.
 photo pawprintrating2.png photo pawprintrating2.png photo pawprintrating2.png photo pawprintrating2.png

I give them 5 out of 5 hearts for their high quality.
 photo heartrating2.png photo heartrating2.png photo heartrating2.png photo heartrating2.png photo heartrating2.png

And 4 hearts for cost.
 photo heartrating2.png photo heartrating2.png photo heartrating2.png photo heartrating2.png

Overall, we really loved these treats! We would definitely buy them and recommend them to our friends. Next time you're in need for a high quality training treat, head over to Chewy.com!

Learning to back flip (just kidding).

Review // Giveaway // Contest: KONG Treats

We've got a lot to share with you all in this post!
We'll start with the review first.

 photo reviewtext.png

We love our KONG toys, so when opportunity came knocking we jumped on the chance to review KONG Treats!

JAKKS Pacific, Inc. recently partnered with KONG to create their USA Made, All Natural Premium Treat line.

We received these three tasty treats to review:
IMG_7776
Sweet Potato Stix, Chew Buddies (variety pack) and Mini Meaty Bites (in beef).

They are all corn free, wheat free, soy free and contain no animal by products or artificial colors. They were all made in the USA! We love USA made treats!

Mini Meaty Bites are soft, bite-sized treats (or swallow-size in the case of my meaty-treat-loving dogs). They're a quick but tasty reward; perfect for training. They come in beef and chicken.
They're also shaped like little KONG toys which I think is cute.

IMG_7788
"I could care less what it is shaped like, give it to me!"

IMG_7790

They smell very strongly (but not badly, if you ask me, they smell like beef jerky) and the dogs go wild for them, another great quality for a training treat. They're very soft and easy to break in half, you know, if small is not small enough. ;)

IMG_7824
"Nom nom nom."

They're about $5 on Amazon for a 4.5 oz bag.

Sweet Potato Stix are a soft and chewy vegetarian treat.

 photo lassiedroolingforKONG.png

As you can probably tell by Lassie's drool (I was so amused to find that when importing pictures from camera to computer), they were delicious!
These treats are easy to break into smaller pieces, if desired, and are great for training or hiding in a KONG Genius toy (the Leo in particular).

IMG_7797
"Mmmm, delicious!"

I did expect them to be a little longer, simply because of the word "stix" plus in images they do look longer. But that's not a problem, I would've broken them anyway. ;)

They're about $7 on Amazon for a 6.5 oz bag.

Chew Buddies "Long Lasting Chews are the perfect way to treat your dog and help clean their teeth as well."

IMG_7870

We received a variety pack with 4 large Chew Buddies inside. Chew Buddies come in three different flavors to choose from: Chicken (porcupine and cow pictured), Fresh Breath (alligator), and Bacon ((adorable) dinosaur).

They smelled alright to me, but they must've smelled amazing to the animals because 2 out of three cats came running when I opened the bag and dumped them out for pictures.

Petal was my first taste tester. I let her pick which one she wanted to try.
IMG_7876
IMG_7875
Moony the cat wants one too!

Petal chose the chicken flavored cow and promptly chewed it's head off.

IMG_7899
Look! It has a little belly button! Hehe.

The chew lasted a little longer than expected, about 5 or so minutes.
She greatly enjoyed it, licking up all the crumbs she left and begging for another.

I gave Lassie the Bacon Dino to try and he gobbled it up happily.

Back

Lassie gobbled it up in about five minutes and licked up every crumb. I think it's safe to say he greatly enjoyed it.

As you can see from the picture above, it's not a solid treat. For my dogs, it's not a long lasting chew, but I didn't expect it to be. I only expected for my dogs to enjoy chewing it, which they did!
I can't claim it did anything to clean their teeth; they each have had only one so far. I would think, however, that long term use would provide dental benefits.
The large chews come in a package of 4 and the small chews come in a package of 10. The large chews go for about $13 on Amazon.

The only thing I was disappointed in with these chews was that I didn't get an adorable piggy chew in my bag. :(
;P

Lassie and Petal give Mini Meaty Bites 4 out of 4 paws up for tastiness!
 photo pawprintrating2.png photo pawprintrating2.png photo pawprintrating2.png photo pawprintrating2.png

I give them 4 1/2 out of 5 hearts.
 photo heartrating2.png photo heartrating2.png photo heartrating2.png photo heartrating2.png photo halfheartrate2.png

Lassie and Petal give Sweet Potato Stix 3 paws up!
 photo pawprintrating2.png photo pawprintrating2.png photo pawprintrating2.png

I give them 4 hearts.
  photo heartrating2.png photo heartrating2.png photo heartrating2.png photo heartrating2.png

Lassie and Petal give Chew Buddies 4 paws up!
 photo pawprintrating2.png photo pawprintrating2.png photo pawprintrating2.png photo pawprintrating2.png

I give them 4 1/2 hearts.
 photo heartrating2.png photo heartrating2.png photo heartrating2.png photo heartrating2.png photo halfheartrate2.png

I would definitely consider buying the Mini Meaty Bites and the Chew Buddies. The Sweet Potato Stix are great and my dogs love them, but I tend to go for the meaty treats first. Plus I try to give very little of anything sweet potato to Petal. As a puppy, for whatever reason, her tummy was a little sensitive to sweet potatoes. I'm not sure if it still is. She did just fine with the Sweet Potato Stix, but like I said, I limited her to just 1 or 1 1/2 every few days. Lassie gobbled up many of them though and really enjoys them. I would consider buying them for use in our KONG Genius.
